mystery perennial?
by Chris Brooks
(Portland, Oregon)
about 18" high, tender stalk and leaves, clusters of white flowers at end of stalks. leaves are solid green, edges toothy (?) almost heart shape leaves. It started last spring but only abou 5" tall, no flowers. Acts liks a perennial. Portland, Oregon so it's quite damp, but the plant is in a very dry area by my home. Soil is very sandy, well draining, and on the drier side as it is growning by the house under wide overhanging eves. There are no others around that I have seen.

Lady's Slipper or Summer Rose

WILL FILL (any empty space)
Annual. Both of these names are hearsay. Many flowers in a variety of colors on the stems, grows anywhere. Produces lots of seeds. Self sows where it grows unless you are an observant, quick seed collector. Seed pods explode.

Clerodendron ugandense--"blue butterfly"
I live in a rural area near the town of Cochran in central Georgia. I took a cutting from a plant my nephew (who also lives in central GA) was given to start this plant. A garden club visited his garden several years ago and were amazed that he had one of "these" in his garden. He has no idea what they said it was but the lady who gave it to him said she got her start from a lady who brought back a cutting from another country (he thought India).
It seems to thrive in full sun. He cuts it back before the first frost and it comes back every spring. Several folks have tried to get a start from a cutting but no one has had any luck until I took a couple of cuttings last fall and rooted them in my greenhouse over the winter.
The bloom is beautiful and reminds you of a butterfly in flight. I have my plant in a pot right now and moved it into my greenhouse just before our first frost last week because it was so full of blooms, it was just too beautiful to have them killed by the cold.
From a 5 inch cutting taken last fall, my plant is about 4 feet tall now. I've never seen anything like it and would love to know what it is.
Thank you for your help!
Janis

Lovely perennial I transplanted as a seedling from many in my father's garden. Blooms now in zone 6b-7. Bushy, a bit leggy with beautiful purple flowers. Neither of us have any idea what it is or where it came from. Maybe you can help!

What kind of shrub is this intoxicating scented flowering shrub?
by Melissa Sharp
(Liberty Township, NJ)
Excuse the back end of the stink bug!
We live in northwestern Warren County, NJ, and throughout our property there are these great big shrubs with teeny tiny white flowers that have only four petals. The scent reminds me somewhat of jasmine, but it's more delicate and very heady when the wind blows. Anyone know what this is?
