tall plant with white flowers
by Bob Galvin
(Rochester, NY)
My sister-in-law had this plant that I liked so she gave me one to put in my garden. She tells me that it multiplies quickly. It is currently about 2 ft tall with small (about 1/2" to 1" long) white flowerettes with what appear to be black stamen(?) inside. My sister-in-law tells me that hummingbirds are attracted to them. She does not know the name of the plant and I was just curious.

This flower was in beautiful bloom last summer when we visited my husband's grandparents in Arkansas City, KS. It was planted in a flower bed next to the house, on the south side (sunny). I would really appreciate your help. I'm not sure if it is a type of lily, if so what type, or otherwise.

Whitish Flowering plant Alabama
by Rita
(Birmingham, AL)
This plant is in north central Alabama in the suburbs of a large city. The plant is low, maybe a foot high in places. I have one in a bed that gets almost all sun, but have one also in a bed that is mostly shady. The plant thrives the same in both places. The bigger leaves are about 4-6 inches wide and up to 10-12 inches long. It blooms at least 9-10 months of the year. The plant is deeply rooted and spreads. The blooms are an ecru (off-white) color with tiny tinges of muted pink, even though they appear yellow in the picture. It has never been watered or cared for other than normal weeding, even in droughts, yet it thrives. I hope you can tell me the name of it, as my late mother planted it and I can't ask her.

white daisy like flower
by Tina
(Milwaukee, WI, USA)
I just bought a house in October and my yard looks like a jungle! I am trying to sort out some perranial plants that might be worth keeping. This one is in the front of the house which faces West and gets sun during the afternoon hours and the flowers seem to follow the path of the sun. I am not sure of the soil, it's not really in a bed of any sort it's just surrounded by grass and next to what I think is a Tiger Lily. Any ideas? I have a close up of the flower also, let me know if I should post that as well. Oh, and the green in the middle has now bloomed full on white.

small white flower, rounded leaves, spreading
by Helen
(Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
This plant is growing in Calgary, Alberta, but the soil originally came from a farm somewhere outside the city - not exactly sure where.
It lives in the flower bed on the north side of the house. It gets late afternoon/evening sun, and gets watered only when it rains.
Grows all the time - I've been trying to kill it for 2 years and it keeps coming back...
It has now spread out of the flowerbox and into the lawn/grass, how do I stop it? Hopefully you can tell me what it is and that will help me figure out how to stop it!

Miniscule white flower/serregated leaves
by Bonnie G
(Grant, MI)
I live in zone 5B on a lake. This plant gets part sun/part shade. It's about 2.5' tall (as of August after 2 transplantings). The tiny white flowers have just begun to show on the tri-forked stem ends. In early spring I suspected it was a hydrangea. Now I'm wondering if it might be in the viburnum family. The teensy white 5 petal star-like flowers look a lot like the Pentas, are slightly fragrant and seem to fold up late afternoon in the shade. The leaves are serrated, opposite/sub-opposite. I'm wondering if this is an annual or perrenial. Any help identifying is greatly appreciated!

Woody bush with large heart-shaped leaves, orchid-like white flowers
by Jill
(Syracuse, NY)
This woody bush came with the property when I bought it almost 20 years ago, located in Central NY (usually considered zone 5). It is in a hedgerow, so I'm going to say it is a shade to partial shade plant. As you can see by the pictures, it has large, heart-shaped leaves. The flowers are white, kind of orchid-like, with some yellow and brownish-purple mottling in the throat. I don't think the pictures show it, but the bush also produces long, thin seed pods (about 1-1.5 foot long by about 1/2 inch wide). The flowers bloom in June. Because I had to adjust the image size to below 1MB to get the pictures accepted, they don't look as sharp as the originals. If you can't see clearly enough let me know and we can hopefully figure something out.

white, four-petaled wildflower
by wendy tennyson
(Belle Rive, Illinois USA)
white, four-petaled wildflower
I come across these plants this time of year here in our woods, which is bottomland forest which floods frequently. I assume they must be highly tolerant of wet soils and deep shade. They stand roughly knee high, maybe 24 inches, and are mainly a singular stalk with opposite, lanceolate, serrated leaves. THe flowers are mainly borne along the terminating end of the stalk , like shepherds purse or tall bellflower, though I am pretty sure there are better examples if I could think of them at the moment. The flowers are small, (less than 1/2 inch?), white, and four-petaled. They bloom in the late spring and it seems fairly short-lived.

THanks SO much if you can nail this down for me...

Mystery Vine in Zone 4 (Clematis virginiana)
by Dotsy Gigliotti
(Steamboat Springs, CO, USA)
Vine With Red Extension Cord
This vine has been growing in Steamboat Springs, CO, zone 3 or 4 for almost 10 years on a trellis beside the house. The roots are kept warm by the driveway asphalt.
It was started by a scruffy looking little pot of sticks as a remnant of a nursery's stock in November about ten years ago. It has alot of woody stems but puts out thick foliage every spring.
It faces west, uses moderate water and is deciduous. It has a soft, flexble light green leaf that seems happy in part sun. The stems are twig like and are very woody.
Thank you so much for helping me identify this mystery vine.

Perennial groundcover with White Flowers and gray-green foliage.
by Linda
(Port Angeles, WA, USA)
The flower stems come up above the foliage with a cluster of snow white double petal blooms. It has been blooming since late April.
I received this from a neighbor when she was dividing her plants. It was growing in with 'Snow in Summer'. I separated the two plants last fall. We are in Zone 7 and in the 'Rain Shadow' of the Olympics. This spring, this plant had almost doubled in growth and had these beautiful bright white flowers. The leaves remind me of lamb's ear because of how soft they are... feeling like fleece. It's on the north side of my house but does get at least 6 hours of sun. I have looked for it at all the local nurseries and also tried 'google-ing' it's description. I went back to a nursery with photos and still no one could identify it. I don't intend to buy more BUT I like to know what's growing in my garden and this one is definitely a keeper.

Green Plant with tiny white flowers on stem
by Vicki
(Huntley, IL USA)
close up with buds
OK, I'm a novice and have always loved gardening and attempted to have a garden for years, well, this year I decided to take is very seriously and I have grown seedlings for a small farmer's market. Anyway, long story short, the wind blew over my little greenhouse, which is why I ended up with a conglomeration of dirt that I saved that had all my seeds in it. I put the dirt into trays and I just waited for things to pop up and separate what I could identify. I have two plants that I cannot identify and they appear to be floral, but her I will only submit one, and maybe the other in the future. It may be wild because I cannot find a seed packet that I planted with this in it. All were grown in the green house until the windstorm, and getting diffused light. I have hardened them off and still growing. Any help is really appreciated!

White Flower, big green leaves
by Marisa Vandervaart
(St. Catharines ON Canada)
I just moved into my house 3 weeks ago and have a large plant bed with the attached greenery in it (please see picture). It is growing beside thehouse, in shade. The leaves as you can see are big and green. The flower just bloomed today (the warm weather must have tricked it), and it looks to me like a lily. I would like to know if you know what this plant is for I love them and would like to ensure their survival for next year. Do I need to dig it up and put the bulbs away, or can it stay in the ground?? If I need to dig up, do I wait till it dies off completely or can I cut it down and dig up the bulbs now??
