Yellow flowered shrub - 7 ft tall

This 7 foot tall shrub grows in my mother's garden in Sutton, Ontario (zone 4). It grows in full sun on poor soil on a dryish site. The yellow flowers are trumpet-like and extremely fragrant. Three or 4 blossoms will fill a room with their fragrance. Any ideas what this is?

My Grandparents Yellow Rose bushes

by Andy
(Orillia Ontario Canada)

Hello there, this is a prolific flowering yellow rose that is also prolific in putting out sucker roots. The canes can grow to 4-6 feet in height in rather dense thickets. It usually begins flowering in late May and peaks in early June. These particular plants were growing in partial shade on a property with a number of tall maples. The soil is the sort of loam common to the southern Georgian Bay region between Orillia and Midland Ontario. They were also growing close to the driveway which was crused limestone gravel so I assume it has a wide range of pH tolerance. The picture shown was taken 31 May 07.
Thanks for your time, Andy

This show a bunch of buds in there, not open yet. This shows leaf with bud at base This shows plant about 3' tall

I got seeds with no name from a friend, in 2009, I threw them in back of my yuccas in 2009. In 2010 they came up, they are on the west side of the house, they receive late afternoon sun. I live in central PA. I would like to know what they are, I have to move the plants that are there, and if they are not identified I won't keep them, (I like to know what I have growing, with so many being poisonous, I have young kids and pets) they will take up alot of room, also.
I appreciate any help identifying this plant. I have looked for it with no success.
Please get back to me,
Thanks again,
Judi

yellow Perennial growing in shady bed

by Maggie
(Regina, SK, Canada)

The plant is rounded, approximately two feet high and the same wide. It has been blooming since mid-may, and shows no sign of stopping as of today (June 3). we just bought our house last summer, and moved in in July, and I don't recall noticing it then. I'm a novice gardener, and have a lovely garden full of perennials I can't yet identify, so I'm learning as I go...I don't know what to say about the soil type. The plant is mostly in shade, but would get a bit of indirect sunlight.
Thank you for being there! I would also appreciate any advice or suggestions about propogation, as its such a beautiful plant, I'd like to have a couple in my front flower bed as well!

Doug says he's going to let the rest of the group tell you what you have but don't worry - next year you'll have lots! :-)

Small Yellow Flowers, Dark Leaves

by Cyndi
(Beaverton, Ontario)

This dark leaf plant grows quite tall with dainty yellow flowers in the summer. I have it in a sun location (I am in Beaverton Ontario, zone 5a). I was told it was a Lysmachea Punctata, but I don't think it is correct, as it does not grow in clumps, the flowers are more delicate and the leaves are the wrong color. I started off with 2 plants last year that were given to me, and there is now about 10 of them, so it grows well.

Tall, tall, yellow summer flower

by Kathy
(Stonington, MI, USA)

Plant Site

Plant Site

Plant Site Single Flower About to Bloom

This plant has been growing on our property for 40 plus years and the previous owner can?t remember what it is. It is located in Stonington, MI near the northern shore of Lake Michigan (near Escanaba, MI). Summers are usually in the 80's - 90's, winters are usually below freezing, lots of snow. It is in full sun all afternoon, morning shade. It starts growing leaves and stalks in spring, the stalks are now almost 6 feet tall, and is just now starting to bloom. In a few more days, the flowers will be large, full yellow blossoms, 3 to 4? across, almost like big chrysanthemums, and will last until first frost.

Does anyone know what this plant is and how to propagate more? It does spread on its own, but has no visible seeds or pods. New stalks come up from the ground in front where there is grass or soil.

Thank you so much.

yellow flowers, silver leaves

(Toledo, Ohio USA)

Hello, this is a picture of something growing in our front yard that we like, but are not sure what it is. We are positive that we never personally planted it, but by the time we first actually noticed it this past Spring, it was about the size of an average cereal bowl. This picture was taken about one week ago and as I write this, it is now about 6 feet tall! It has recently produced those pretty yellow flowers at the very top. This is located in Toledo, Ohio, and our front yard is full sun from sunrise to about noon time. It is growing in just regular yard "dirt". Just seemed to show up out of nowhere. Please help. We like this whatever it is, just wish we knew the name. Thank you so much! We really appreciate your time.

yellow bulb-like

by A J Palfi
(Elk Grove, Ca, USA)

Bought a California house that had these already planted. These were planted as bulbs. Separate plants of white, pink/white, reddish-pink/white, purple, yellow. Just started blooming here in northern California near Sacramento in the last week of March and have many buds left. The buds begin in a tight row like a train, then spread in a cluster of 7 to 12, one behind the other, at the tip/end of the stem. As they mature and get bigger and heavier, the stem bows over with the weight and they begin blooming, the one closest to the stem first, with the others below it reducing in size and maturity out to the tip.

Pale-yellow petals with variegated, lanceolate leaf

by Carole J Wilson
(Salem OR USA)

This pale-yellow, 6 petal perennial appears during March/April in zone 7 (Mid-Willamette Valley, Salem, Oregon). They've been here since I moved in 37 years ago. The ledge where they grow is mostly shaded, with oak trees and a solid fence immediately to their south. Between the Valley rain and a sprinkler system, there is plenty of year-round moisture. The 'face' of the flower is always facing downward, similar to a snowdrop, the inset photo shows the center. The stem is stiff and narrow. The length varies from 6-8" to nearly 18". Most of the leaves have a subtle variegation in color; however some have brown-colored splotches. The leaves range from about 4 to 8-10". The flowers have spread slowly over the years after an English ivy hedge was removed about 10 years ago. I applaud your expertise and tenacity in identifying flowers. Thank you for taking the time to research my request. I hope you are successful!

I hope you can help with an ID on a plant in the yard at my new house. It has flat dark green leaves with sharp spines on the tips. It has clusters of yellow flowers (that the bees love, as I saw today). And there were a couple of fruits or pods that look a lot like limes... The plant is kind of scary looking, and we have two of them. One growing among other shrubs (5 ft tall and 7ft wide) and one by itself (maybe 3ft tall and wide). We are in a small town in West TN, and the plants get a lot of sun. Thank you for your help!
