arborvitaes and deer damage

by Rhonda

This winter the deer ate a lot of the green growth of my aborvitae shrubs right down to the branches. Will it grow back ?
Thank you,
Rhonda

Doug says if the branches were very young, then there's a chance. If the branches were older, then probably not. If they ate it right back to the trunk, I wouldn't be holding my breath at all.

But because I can't see the extent or age of the plant, let me simply suggest you wait a month or more to see if small buds break out along the remaining branches. Depending on the age and extent of the injury, they may or may not resprout.

Good luck with it (cross your fingers and think good thoughts about your plants)

And check out the deer control articles (do a search).
