by Judy
(Canada)

Hello,
This plant is in my perrenial garden and it is a mid - late summer bloomer. I hope someone can tell me what it is. I thought penstemon digitalis, but not so sure now.

Great Blue Lobelia
by: Moni

Your flower looks like the Great Blue Lobelia (Lobelia siphilitica). Since it is in the garden it may be a variety that has better characteristics than the wild flower. The leaves look a little different but that is the closest flower in shape.

You did not tell the height, but looking at the lilies next to it, the lobelia is a good guess.
To read more about the Great blue lobelia look at this site:

Your plant is not Penstemon digitalis...that has white flowers and shiny foliage.

I'm stumped. But here are my three guesses. Can't hurt to guess....

1.)Corydalis elata
2.)Blue false indigo
3.)blue salvia

Good luck!

looks like lobelia syphylitica, blue lobelia. This is a native perennial which tolerates shade and enjoys moist soil
