Bouganvilla dropping petals

by karen

I recently planted 2 plants and connected them to a trellis...every few days the ground is covered with petals.

Doug says that this isn't uncommon given that there's some transplant shock associated with moving plants. And the first thing that plants do when in a bit of shock is shed their flowers. If you take care of them, they'll grow and start reblooming in season.

Bouganvillea Petal Drop

Having grown 4 acres of bouganvillea fence line, I can also tell you that if you don't keep them watered well initially, they'll end up skimpy and dropping petals all the time. Although they will tolerate heat and drought after being established awhile, they really do prefer a modicum of moisture.
