Buds, spiked leaves
by: Anonymous

You are lucky! This is a day lilly - it can be one of many varying colors. It needs no special care, will multiply, and comes back every year.

Spiderwort
by: Teresa

If the flowers are small and blue, white or mauve, it might also be a spiderwort, a perennial that has been hybridized from wild spiderwort for gardens. If you break the flower stem and it exudes a sticky sap, it is a spiderwort. Nice flowers, dies down completely, not as much clean up at daylillies require. Teresa

I just found a magazine article showing the different kinds of day lilies. I always thought there was only one kind, the orange flowers. It seems I may have several different varieties in my new garden!

This appears to be a day lily of some kind.
