choisya (according to label on plant!)

by Sarah Mottram
(Portsmouth, U.K.)

Bush with very distinctive narrow dark green leaves. Small, very fragrant white flowers. Label says choisya, but not convinced, as all pictures I have seen have much wider, paler leaves than this one (see photo).

Definitely a Choisya...there are lots of types. The most common have more rounded leaves. This looks like it could be 'Aztec Pearl'

Choisya varieties

This site has three pictures and descriptions: http://hortiplex.gardenweb.com/plants/nph-ind.cgi?name=Choisya&f=d&gl=1&p=1

I'll make an educated guess, if you keep in mind that I haven't any personal experience with this plant in my northerly location but do have developed a good eye for such things. I would say from the shape of the leaves, the scent that you mentioned, and the information I was able to find, that it is what it says it is. You need the second name to pin done which variety of this plant you have though. The three I came across on the above link varied a lot, with Choisya 'Aztec Pearl' looking quite similar to yours. There ARE more types, but this could be your plant. Try a general google image search with that name and you will come up with more pictures than you can use. Just keep in mind with this technique that the information isn't always accurate. Hortiplex and plant speciality sites are much more reliable for identification purposes.
Good for you for checking it out.
