City Compost - Weed Screens?

Our city sells city compost and we were ready to have a load or 2 dumped when another garden centre warned against it because it is not screened, and we put weeds in our green waste containers here. Is it unwise for our condition? For anyone's condition?

Doug says.

Hmm, I guess it depends on what the "condition" is. :-)   Compost is good stuff.  And if it is truly "compost" and it has developed heat in the composting process (big municipal composts usually do) then there are no seeds.

And even if there are a few weed seeds, you're not going to get any more swamped with weeds than you are now. :-)

Secondly, screening won't remove weed seeds unless the weed seeds are the size of chestnuts.  Screening is to remove rocks and make the "soil" nice to look at for the consumer.  A screen small enough to catch weed seeds won't allow soil through.

Personally, I think the "sales" job by the garden center is a good one but I'd be using that city compost myself.
