climber flowering problem- Iceberg rose

by jill
(Moorabbin )

Climber roughly 8 years old - facing north on brick wall; plant looks really healty; have fed plant with liquid seaweed and rose food in spring; Problem : plenty of flowers, but which brown off and die before fully opening' flowers don't last very long..

Doug says that north facing walls rarely have enough sunshine for good rose growing. (problem number one).

And a sad fact of growing white roses is that they show botrytis and other fungal diseases well before the other colours. Sad but true.

So on a north facing wall where there's not enough sunshine to dry off the dew quickly - and the plant isn't as happy as it would be on a south-facing wall - you can expect to see fungal problems on your white blooms before the red and not much you're going to be able to do about it. I note even if you spray the jabbering out of this plant, you're never going to get great performance in this location.

Sorry.
