I am moving from the south to the north sometime around September. I want to take some of my flower bulbs but don't know when to dig them up and how to store them for the trip. how long can they be store and how should I do that so they don't rot.

Doug says - dig when the bulbs are dormant - any time in fall is good. Keep cool and dry until you replant up north. Replant as soon as you move in - well, mid-October is good - do not store over the winter.
