don't plant vegetables together

by Marie A
(central On canada)

I am told certain veggie should not be planted near each other . How or where do I find out what veggies can be planted near each other ?

Doug says there is some research that shows that companion planting works with some vegetables for a variety of reasons. In other words, plant x and y together and they'll grow better.

But I'm not familiar with too much actual research that says not to plant specific vegetables together. In other words, plant a and b together and they won't grow.

But I'm sure some readers will provide folklore or research they've seen.

there are some plants, like onions and garlic, that can inhibit others. there are also some plants that are supposed to help. certain flowers can attract benificial insects.

i think you should take a ride to the library or book store for:

Great Garden Companions (A Companion-Planting System for a Beautiful, Chemical-Free Vegetable Garden), by Sally Jean Cunningham, Rodale Organic Living Books

Carrot Love Tomatoes, by Louise Riotte, Workman Publishing Company

that is much easier then trying to write it all out here!
