Crocosmia Blooms in Sunlight
by Susan
(Vancouver, BC)
sunlit crocosmia
Last year I bought a house and inherited a wonderful garden, with over 140 different plants and trees. I'm still trying to figure out what they all are, but I think this is crocosmia. I caught the blooms in a bit of late-afternoon September sun.

Yellow Calla

I planted 10 calla bulbs in my Johnson City, TN garden, and this one was by far the best of the bunch. I was especially happy as yellow lilies are my favorite.

A Colourful Walk Way with lilies
by Susan
(Belleville Ontario )
This is part of the garden that runs along the side of my sidewalk that leads into the house.
At night, the lights will cast a shadow among the leaves and than onto the sidewalk.
In this garden, you can see 4 types of flowers, from buttercups, lilies (red & orange), small pink roses and white fever few at the back and than the mint that grows between them all.

I divided some hedge lilies and planted them between day lilies. The day lilies had to be trimmed to allow some sun through to the smaller lilies.
Elegant Drain Pipe Lilies
by Susan
(Belleville, Ontario)
These yellow lilies grow by the water pipe at the end of our house, here in Ontario. Now they are never taken out of the ground and come back every year, as long as I give them my special food!
Tiger Lily
by Clara
(Winnipeg, Manitoba)
This flower blooms in mid-August. This plant grows under the eaves with evergreens all around and with about an hour of sun a day.

Ivory Queen Allium

Anemones in Autumn Sun
This is the first year for 'Ivory Queen' allium in my garden, and I planted 6 bulbs last fall in a bed of woolly thyme. They all came up in the spring, the pretty, pleated leaves pushing through the similarly-colored but finer-textured carpet of thyme. Their actual bloom time, in May, was fairly short, but their timing was great--they calmed down the blazing orange penstemon that you see waving around over their heads. And the spent flowerheads stayed for a few weeks longer to add some interest.

Red Lillies

Intense Red Lillies
I don't remember the variety, I bought a couple of bulbs several years ago and had to move them last year, because it had become to shady for them to flourish. I think they are much happier now.

Stargazer
The Stargazers are one of my favorite flowers. So big and graceful, it always amazes me that they can survive the cold winters of Quebec! I took this photo in my garden, late July 2008.
