Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane)
by: Anonymous

This is an easy house plant to care for and to propagate. Since your plant is mainly stem, cut off the top several nodes down from the bottom leaves. Root it in potting soil or medium(or water or sand). Cut off the remaining stalk about 6 in. from the bottom. Cut the stalk into segments of several nodes each or 3-4 inches. Notice that there may already be protrusions indicting places where roots will form. Lay these segments horizontally on top of the potting soil with the protrusions toward the soil. Water well. Sometimes these root quickly. However, my last batch has taken all winter to root. You will have new plants from this one plant for years. I think some of mine date back to my grandmother's plant from the 80s.

Dieffenbachia, also known as Dumb Cane, is poisonous to cats and dogs. I'm not sure about small children.

Dieffenbachia is usually an indoor plant... it wil grow very high in your appartment. You will have to give it a larger pot because it will outgrow it often during its life span.
