The best things in life are unplanned!

I planted a few different varities of sunflower this year but the best one was planted by mother nature near the bird feeder. It is a beautiful full sized sunflower just outside our eating area window for us to enjoy daily. The best things in life are unplanned!

First Peony

by Sandy Jo
(USA)

Snowy Peony

Snowy Peony

After having had this peony for many years, a house-warming gift from my Mum. Knowing they do not like to be disturbed I left it alone, but was sad since it had never blossomed. Last year we added a deck to the house, so it had to be moved and remembered reading how they will not bloom if buried too deeply, so was very careful of its new placement.
It has it ever rewarded me.

Mammoth Giant Sunflower

by Carolyn Haley
(Vermont, USA)

It's supposed to grow 12 feet tall. Mine topped out at less than 4 -- a testament to poor soil and season-long bad weather. But also a testament to the tenacity of plants, in that they'll do their darnedest to grow, flower, and fruit no matter what nature and humans throw at them!

Monarch Magnet

by Jane Van Haasteren
(Fanwood, NJ USA)

Monarch Butterfly on Swamp Milkweed (asclepias incarnata).
As a co-caretaker of our town?s Monarch Butterfly Waystation, established last year as a Boy Scout Eagle Project, I derive huge satisfaction from this volunteer gig. The 600-square-foot garden teems with life, and I?ve been able to witness the whole monarch cycle -- from mating, to egg laying, to growing caterpillars, to chrysalis.
It?s amazing and uplifting!
