These yellow daylilies were given to me by a friend who saved them from being thrown out, Although she didn't want them and didn't know what they were, she knew I'd want to find out!
They are grown in the southeast corner of my backyard at the end of a cedar hedge that runs along the south side of the yard.

Lilies in Bloom

Lilies in Bloom

My daughter Victoria took this picture of our neighbors garden. Victoria is a budding photographer and our neighbor Pam just so happens to be a photographer. Pam was kind enough to give Victoria pointers. Her husband Alan had planted the flowers last year and the blooms were beautiful this year. I really got to enjoy them because they live across the street.

Pink "Eye Candy" Rhododendron - Close Up

by Cindy Mc
(Sammamish, WA)

Pink

Pink "Eye Candy" Rhododendron

To me, these blossoms almost look edible. They glisten as though dipped in sugar crystals - and are enormous! They are between 5 and 6 inches across, and form huge multi-blossom bracts that almost appear unreal. The plant itself isn't very attractive, but when it blossoms - it gets a year's worth of attention for a few short weeks! I call it "Eye Candy" but I wish I knew the true variety name!

Hydrangea Endless Summer

(Hamilton, ON Canada)

All Summer Blooms

All Summer Blooms

I purchased this bush in the spring of 2008. I couldn't decide where to put it, and it remained in the pot for the summer. Finally, it was planted in the fall. Then, this spring, I had to dig it up to make way for the construction of new front steps! I planted it in an old washtub for this summer and plan to put it in a permanent home in the ground this fall.

Clematis Seed Pod

Clematis Seed Pod

When the blossoms drop off my Clematis, I've also learned to look closely at the seed heads - they're pretty too! Sometimes the rain gets to them before I do, but I enjoy getting close up photos whenever I can. They persist on the vine for a very long time adding some interest through the fall and sometimes into winter.

Flowering Tree at Skagit Tulip Festival - 2009

Flowering Tree - Closeup & Landscape

Flowering Tree - Closeup & Landscape

This tree was beautiful! I managed to get one shot that made me happy and lucky enough to call a it a Closeup Landscape! I think it might be a flowering quince, or perhaps an ornamental cherry, but I've never seen a tree with so many thousands of clustered pink blossoms as this one. Looking back, the lady in the hat with blue dress seemed perfect for the shot too! So, it's a closeup with a landscape shot as well!

Comtesse de Bouchaud

by Mary Rishaur

Pretty Pink!

Pretty Pink!

This clematis is grown in a large pot, over our cedar hedge. The hedge blocks the southern sun from the roots. It was previously grown in the ground in a southern facing location, but had to be moved in May as a new set of steps were built in that spot. I'm hoping it winters well in the pot.

Petunias are pretty common, but a closeup of the center shows very striking details. I have a hanging basket filled with purple petunias and although they're nothing special from a distance, when you look inside they show lots of additional colors.

Bee on Lavendar

Taken at the Sequim Lavendar Festival, in Sequim, WA - July 17, 2009. The festival is a sight for sore eyes, and a delight for the nose as well! The lavendar was buzzing with bees, and I managed to get a nice shot with a bee, lavendar and a red barn in the background for contrast.

Red & Yellow Parrot Tulip

Red & Yellow Parrot Tulip

ONE Parrot Tulip blossomed this year. I'd planted them a few years ago, and before the buds could even begin to open, the deer would eat them! This year, I put up Deer Fencing/Netting and it worked! (However, as you'll see on the tulip, it didn't keep the aphid away!)

Erigeron

by Amy
(Wingham, Ontario, Canada)

I'd never heard of this plant before I spotted it in the garden centre and picked it up, and with all the plants I've got already, not having heard of it is almost a prerequisite for making it into my garden! I was pleased with the plant - not only did it survive our harsh winters, but it came back bigger and with more of these lovely pastel blooms every year. Definitely on the short list of my favourites!
