Wild flower
by: shaed

This is a type of orchid, sorry can't remember the name. I suppose you might call it a weed if it is undesirable for you to have in your flower bed, but it is a native wild flower. They grow in my shaded areas too, south central Ontario. I'll occasionally leave some to enjoy(I like their shape), but they are not a showy plant, small pinkish purple flowers that are hidden because they do hang down. In my experience they are not invasive but they do show up every year in my shaded lawn where even the grass struggles along.

Plant or Weed...
by: Ferne, Kamloops, B.C., Canada

Is it a plant?...Yep. Is it a weed?...Don't know, one person's weed can be another person's valued plant. A plant growing in a climate and conditions it prefers can be a weed or positively invasive but the same plant growing in a harsher climate or less suitable situation can be another person's well behaved and welcome addition to the garden.

What is this plant? Don't know for sure but it will be much easier to tell what it is soon. It looks to me like it is about to flower.

My best guess would be False Solomon's Seal or Starry False Solomon's Seal or something closely related. But the flower head doesn't seem quite right to me. Leaves are a perfect match. A good shade plant if that is what it is. Small dainty white flowers and then a few red berries. I wouldn't consider it a weed. It was most likely planted there by someone. Makes a good filler plant for moist shade, although not a particularly showy one.

Wait until you see it blooming before you make any hasty decisions.
