honeysuckle vine old fashioned

by Ann
(Texas, central)

my honeysuckle vine which I have had for many years is dying. The leaves wilt and then they turn brown. It bloomed fully in early spring. What could be wrong? I have found no bugs on it.

Doug says that without seeing it - any diagnosis is tricky. So - let me tell you that there is a form of fungus called a leaf blight that does attack honeysuckle and attacks the plant. This fungus attacks the leaves - normally in damp wet seasons. It can be controlled with a copper based fungicide - called Bordeaux mix in the organic world.

There are also leaf spots that might do the same thing if severe infestations occur - control is the same.

Or - if you've overfertilized the lawn or garden bed, you're going to see this kind of "burning" on susceptible plants.

Or - spray damage from lawn sprays can do this.

Or root damage of some kind - digging around it or paving over it etc. will damage the tops.

So - way too difficult to tell you exactly what's going on but those are some of the options you're looking at. If one of those fits, you're in business.
