How to care for wild blueberries

(Limington, Me USA)

We have a small wild blueberry patch that we would like to optimize. We would like to know how to trim and fertilize if needed.
Thank you,
Roger

Doug says that feeding nitrogen or pruning etc is likely only going to be a lot of work and not produce better berries.

Wild berry stands would be best be aided by spreading compost around under the bushes. Other than that - I personally would leave them alone to do their thing and then scoop up the berries when they're ripe.

Simply reduce stress - water in a drought is a perfect thing to do but other than those two things, I wouldn't do a thing.

I have 8 blueberry bushes and I spread compost in Spring and saw dust (not from pressure treated lumber) in the Fall. They seem to love this.

Acid, Acid and more Acid
by: Anne

Blueberries love acid. I would try adding some acidic mulch like pine needles. There is a berry farm near us and that is what the grower recommended for my blueberries. Hope this helps.
