How to get rid of lawn mushroom?
My front lawn is infested with mushroom now. I am desperate for a solution from you, Doug: Do I have to remove all the lawn which is $1000 square feet, and that is an answer I found on line; or do you have an easier solution that can make a busy mom do less work? Thanks!
Peg
Doug says - don't remove the lawn. What rubbish! First - rake the mushrooms out of the lawn. That gets rid of the immediate problem.
Second - start with a full organic programme as I describe on my site - the fall topdressing, the proper feed and nutrition. That thickens up the turf so fewer problems exist.
Understand that mushrooms are a fungus so there's some source of food in the ground for them. Raking gets rid of the immediate problem. Growing a great lawn hides the problem.
Some folks have used 2 pounds of lime/1000 square feet to reduce mushroom infestations. It may not help you but it surely isn't going to hurt.
You don't need to panic here - just rake thoroughly now and then again before you topdress every fall (raking stirs up the soil and give the grass seed a place to hid and germinate).
