I live in NW IA 30 miles from NE SD and 2hr from MN I bought a blue moon wisteria I wanted to train it to grow on a peegee hydrangea tree close to my front porch SE sun exposer. Is this a good idea, this plant is for zone 4 is to be good in extreme cold. I was told by a friend that this is a bad idea and I will not see blums for 7 yrs. I received the plant yesterday. Could you advise me on this idea? Thank you

Doug says there is a lot of bad advice about wisteria out there. Read the articles on pruning wisteria here and then plant it where it will grow. The only problem is not with blooming time but that if the wisteria is happy, it may very well crowd out and kill the hydrangea. This is a very aggressive growing plant.
