Keep large daffodil bulbs large

by Sarah

I purchased extra large daffidil bulbs four years ago, and last fall dug them up to divide and give them more room as they formed bulblets. I would like to know how I can keep them as large as they were when I first bought them because the blooms were sooo large and beautiful. Do I do this by pinching off the top growth of bulblets that have divided off of the original bulb to prevent further growth?

Doug says you grow large bulbs by giving them full sunshine, compost and a few years to develop. That's about it. Reduce the stress and competition and daffodils will become as large (fairly quickl I note) as you'd dream for. No real trick - the compost works wonders for me rather than bulb food.
