Kiwi Vine - Actinidia
(Canada)
How does one identify a male from a female? I planted 1 vine in 2007, not knowing both were required for fruit production.
Doug says, you ask the flower. :-) It's all in the botany of the flower (one plant has only male flowers - the other only females). Which flower has stamens and which flower has pistils.
Here's a diagramme for you to figure it out easily. :-)
From a practical point of view - I'd go and buy one of each again and start over. By the time you see flowers and id the plant, you'll have to then go and buy the opposite and wait another few years to get them both up and growing. Suck it up - buy one of each now.
At the best - you'll have two females and one male and a lot of fruit. At the worst, you'll have one fruit bearing (but very well pollinated and happy) female plant. :-)
