Late Tulip Bulbs from Amsterdam

by Erin
(London, UK)

I recently purchased tulip bulbs at a flower market in Amsterdam (November) They are meant as a Christmas gift for my green-thumbed sister in law back in Canada. The man who sold them to me said I could preserve them in the fridge until the end of frost (March) and I could then plant them. Truth? Do I have any other options?

Doug says - plant them yourself. You can't legally import bulbs without a phytosanitary inspection. So I can't recommend you send them to her. Sorry.

You're late - sorry

Well, you can send them but it depends on where in Canada - much of the country is already frozen. :-( So if you're sending them to southern BC or southern Ontario you might be fine - otherwise, plant them yourself. Phyto or not, you're late. Sorry.

I'd agree with Doug. Plant them yourself.

Perhaps you could find a supplier in Holland that sends direct to Canada.

The bulbs came with a certificate which allows me to import them into Canada...
