Moonflower: Ginormus leaves...no blooms...what's up?

by Judy A.
(Cedar Lake, Indiana)

Why does my moonflower vine have huge leaves on it's 10 foot plus length but not a single bloom? It's in full sun rampantly climbing my raise deck support beams. It starting to look like KUDZU!
HELP ME!

Doug says that he may not be able to help you personally Judy :-) but he'll tell you that moonflowers are very late flowering. And if you've overfed it looking for a massive burst of blooms, you may be looking at a nitrogen-rich plant that will grow like stink but produce relatively few blossoms. That's what it sounds like from my garden viewpoint.

moonflower fragrance
by: carolyn

I have also planted moon flower seeds many of them in seed pots. Usually I only get 2 - 3 out of a pkg of seeds. Don't know what I am doing wrong. When I do have success the fragrance is out of this world as they say. It's like the Febreze commercial, some one opening the door a number of times to smell the air. Too bad they can't bottle the fragrance. OR DO THEY & IF THEY DO WHERE DO YOU GET IT?

Moon Flower vine
by: Vendella

I planted two moon flower vines last year, found them at a Garden center, and planted in two large terra cotta urns. They were wonderful, couldnt believe the size of the flower. I only fertilized them about 3 times during the season. They did bloom late Aug. Sept. I will certainly plant them again. Even though they were in containers, they did well with little fertilization.
