moving tulip bulbs anyway

I want to move some tulip bulbs. I understand I should wait until the leaves are yellow to ensure best energy storage, but I blew it and planted some summer thirsty plants nearby and I am afraid that if I don't dig the tulips now they will not be happy. So I'm going to dig them now. But what is meant by 'cool and dry' for storage. Assume not in the frig, but how cool is cool?

Doug says low 40's is cool. Good luck with that - moving and storing the bulbs now might not kill 'em but you're not going to see flowers again for another two years.
