No sign of new grass

Last fall I top dressed my lawn with grass seed. I could see the grass starting to come up after a week or two, so far this year I don't see too much of the new grass. What did I do wrong? I was thinking maybe I put it down to late I put it down in Sep. Zone 5b

Doug says he has no idea what you did wrong - (other than planting time he has no idea what you did) :-) Sept should be fine for a grass planting. And in April, it's still too early to panic about not seeing new grass growing. Relax for another week or three and then panic and reseed. :-)
