Onion disease

by Tony
(Herefordshire, UK)

Last year was the second very wet and sunless summer here in UK. I nearly lost all my shallots and onions to mildew, either downy or powdery, not sure. Is there any way to prevent and/or control this problem?
Thanks
Tony

Doug says increase the spacing to allow more air circulation. You can also use organic fungicides (if powdery) to control/stop infestations. But cool and damp is a tough combination to beat in some summers for sure

by: Galina

I had the same problem before i started to mulch with horsetail (good for me, i have found plenty of wild growing horsetail nearby). Helps me.
