Onions , when can you eat them?

by Laura
(Houston Tx)

I just planted yellow onions in my garden and I was wondering if i can harvest them thoughout the growing season and eat them (as i thin them out) the bulbs that is before we planted them me and my husband cut into one of the bulbs and it tasted like an onion.... but i still want to ask

Doug says - weed, eat and harvest away. If you need to pull 'em out, you can eat them. :-) All parts are edible - the younger leaves will be good eating but the older the leaves get, the hotter and more bitter the leaves get (in my taste buds anyway - yours may vary) So as the bulbs mature, they're bigger and more useable, the leaves less so.

But eat them at all stages of growth for sure.
