Papayas

by Jeanne
(Louisiana)

How can I get papaya seeds to sprout? The damp paper towel in a plastic baggie method is not working.

Doug says - several things of importance here.

A seed pretreatment of washing and cleaning the seeds in warm water. Let soak in warm water overnight. Discard any seeds that are floating as they are dead.

Otherwise, clean the seed and sow in a soil less medium. KEEP WARM! The warmth and barely damp conditions are the triggers to get this seed into growth. Overwatering and constant dampness will kill the seedlings/seeds. As will soil temperatures under 72F.

Good luck.
