Patio Blueberry Plants

I bought 2 patio blueberry plant roots this past spring. One survived and one did not. Will it thrive as a self pollinator or will it require another for pollination when it begins blooming?
Also, it is very fickle about its soil. I accidently dropped some garlic-chive seeds in the pot about 8 wks of getting it from the nursery. Overnight it seems like the growth was intense and healthy. Will chives eventually ruin the taste of the blueberry when it begins to bear fruit? Any other recomendations about the best soil?

Doug says that blueberries are "partially" self fertile. This means that for the most part, they will indeed produce some fruit by themselvs but more with a partner plant. And different varieties perform better than others if left by themselves. No idea what yours is but yes, you'll get some fruit if you only grow one.

Soils - the garlic seeds and improved growth is a co-incidence. There's no relationship there. And no, the fruit will not change taste if you grow another plant in the same soil.

Soil needs to be acidic and well-drained. That's about as finicky as you need get.

Hope that helps a bit.
