Easy Sun-loving Plants to Grow



Carnations are more properly called Dianthus and there are many different kinds available to the gardener. Here's a basic primer on how to grow this great plant.

Echinacea or Coneflower (pictured) may be perfect beginner plants. Hardy, long blooming, disease tolerant, easy to grow. I'm a big fan of these plants and I think you'll grow them and agree with me on how nice they are.

Daylily plants are one of the hardiest and easiest of perennials to grow.

Garden Phlox or Phlox paniculata. is another great beginner plant. Grow it properly and it will last for decades.

Yarrow is almost as foolproof a plant as they come for the full hot sun - particularly where few other plants will grow.

Easy Shade-loving Plants to Grow



Astilbe are one of the easiest of shade loving perennial plants.

Hosta are the classic shade garden plant with the thousands of leaf colors to choose from.

Goatsbeard or Aruncus is one tough can't-kill kind of plant.

Lungwort or Pulmonaria now comes in a wide variety of leaf colors and shapes. This is a great plant for the spring shade garden.

Corydalis lutea is the longest blooming plant in my garden. And it loves the shade.

Easy Spring Blooming Plants to Grow



Bleeding heart are delightful plants and here's the two forms you'll see - one is a tall spring bloomer known to our grandparents, the other a shorter all-summer bloomer that's a must-have for


Primula or Primroses are indeed one of the easiest plants to grow as well as well as being one of the most charming spring bloomers.


Easy Summer Blooming Plants to Grow



Shasta Daisies are one of the finest and longest blooming summer perennials. Here's how to keep them blooming longer and propagate them because they're short-lived perennials.


Lady's Mantle or Alchemilla is not only an easy early-summer bloomer, it will also grow in the sun or the part shade garden.


Easy Fall Blooming Plants to Grow



Aster flowers are one of the backbone plants for fall perennial garden design and blooming.

Butterfly bush is one of the most fragrant of perennials.

Hibiscus flowers are indeed one of fall's treasures. Massive blooms and easy to grow!
