Thanks Jane! I figured it was a weed but wanted to make sure. There are several of these plants along the bank of the creek behind our house. They make the bank look like it is covered in flowers.
I am in zone 5

They grow here in Zone 5 but beware they are kind of prickly as I recall.

Sometimes called Viper's Bugloss. yes it is a weed but a beautiful one.
