Planting a new clematis in same spot one died
I planted a clematis last fall. It showed some growth this spring and then when it got hot, it died. On reading your material, I suspect I didn't plant it deep enough nor shade the roots. It gets sun after about 10:00 a.m. I dug up the old plant and now want to plant in same spot because the trellis is there. Someone told me to put fung-oil in the dirt and wait a week or two to plant. Will this help if it was Wilt that killed the plant?
Doug says that if it was wilt that killed the plant rather than the wrong conditions - then I wouldn't plant it there. As for fung-oil, it contains Chlorothalonil which makes it a long way from organic.
