please name this tree

(Welland Ontario)

very large irregular leaves. this tree is growing on the north side of our home in Welland Ontario but protected from the north wind by the neighbours house. the area is maily shady and is surrounded by lily of the valley. the soil is top soil over clay but there should be a good layer of humis from decaying leaves. I would like to move it to the west side of the house slightly more sun. what do you think?

I am in zone 5b or 6 depending on which map you look at. To date there have been no flowers or fruits. It is not a golden raintree although I does have leaves that resemble it. the leaves are smooth - top and bottom not rough like a walnut.

I'm not sure what this is, but I can tell you for sure it is NOT a Golden Raintree!

You don't say what zone Ontario is. To me, that looks like a Koelreuteria paniculata or golden raintree, but if it doesn't flower... it is not an oak unless you guys have some kind of oak that I have never seen!

answer to Barbara's question

no it bears nothing else. no fruit, nuts or flowers. I agree it looks good there however it is growing much to large to remain between the houses.

it looks pretty good where it is. Doesn't nature know best most of the time? It looks like an oak tree but I guess that is too obvious so I don't know. Does it bear anything else besides leaves? Barbara
