Pruning Columbines after they bloom

After the bloom falls off do I cut the stem low toward the bush of the plant or do I leave them as they are for more blooms in the future. Im not sure if blooms come back on the same area where they fell off. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Jay Perry

Doug says deadhead to close to the leaves. One bloom per year.
