Purple Mystery Plant

by Trish
(Waynesboro, PA, USA)

These purple flowers are a mystery to me. They've been inhabitants of our front flower bed for the four years we've lived in our house and I haven't been able to identify them (or find anyone else who can) to date.

The plants start off each spring as a leafy ground cover, then they sprout these long, hairy stems which have a purple crown of blooms at the top.

Can anyone identify them?

Thanks!!!

I looked up Campanula glomerata, and it looks like you're absolutely right! Thank you so much! It's great to finally know the name of these flowers! :)

It looks like a Campanula (bellflower). It's probably Campanula glomerata.
