This is definitely columbine...I have purple, white, pink & a blue/white combination...all seed themselves back each year, & we enjoy them greatly!

This sure looks like a Columbine...Aquilegia vulgaris Winky Double Blue in fact. I have the blue-white version. Such a happy little plant...just makes one smile!

Thanks for the information. I've now looked up further information on Columbines and have carefully saved the little seeds. But I've read that hybrids can produce odd offspring from seeds, so am anxious to see what comes up this spring.

It is Columbine. It blooms in the spring, then makes millions of tiny, tiny seeds.

Reminds me of a native violet.

The flower reminds me of a native violet which grows in Australia. Would have to see the roots.

It is columbine or aquilegia. The size of the blossom indicates that maybe it's a hybrid.

Purple Perennial a columbine?
by: JoAnn

Kind of looks like a lady's bonnet columbine to me. They like the shade and are perennials.
