I'm not sure what color the stems are. I wasn't paying -too- much attention. Definitely is a Globe Thistle.

This is Echinops ritro--Globe Thistle. Hummingbirds love it. It thrives here in a dry, bony section of our yard.

Also could be Sea Holly. Are the stems square in shape and a sort of metallic purple-blue color?

Makes a nice dried flower for awhile till it starts to fall apart!
