putting mums to bed

how do you put mums to bed for the winter?

Doug says that it is very important to walk softly and hum a great little lullaby while doing this work (that's the first thing).

And while humming, you can wait till the flowers are fully dead, the rest of the garden killed off, and nothing growing. Then cut the mums to the ground (leaving only a few short stubs to mark the place). If you're nervous they might not survive, you can cover them with some leaves or mulch (remove as soon as you can in the spring with this plant).

And then walk softly away so you won't wake them up. :-)
