This butterfly had been flitting around the lantana blooms all afternoon, but finally sat still long enough for a few pictures.

Fantastic shot!!! The butterflies here where I live in the Midwest are already gone, as the frosts have begun... Make them stay! At least you were able to freeze the moment in time with this gorgeous shot! Very creative use of the camera... I salute you!

I agree with all the comments about the angle of this shot--the butterfly looks like a hang glider poised to go. This becomes an "action" shot rather than the typical still life.

I see now why butterflies are called "Flying Flowers"... this is one beautiful photo of a "Flower Among the Flowers!" I planted Lantana this year, but didn't have visitors as lovely as the one you managed to capture....GREAT JOB!

I've noticed that most times when I see photos of butterflies on blooms, the shots are taken from an angle just above, looking straight down on the butterfly... this is a much more interesting view, and shows the creative side that should exist in every gardener and lover of nature. Great color - the Lantana is gorgeous!
