Rhubarb Stalks are not Red

by J. Stark

Why don't the stalks on my Rhubarb plants turn red? They seem to stay green.

Doug says you have a variety with green stems. If you're used to supermarket types with very red stems, they're bred for that. There are red-stemmed varieties on the market - you can check with your favorite local garden center (not box store) and they'd likely be able to order you some.

older plants seem to have just green stalks. Will fertilizer help to turn the stalks red?
