Rose Diseases

Rose diseases are one of the biggest garden myths in our gardens and they surround this lovely plant like moths to a porch light on a moonless night.

Let me make my point crystal clear. Rose diseases in modern gardens are largely the result of garden mismanagement

If you choose to work against Mother Nature, you’ll pay the price. It is far better to use compost and compost tea to control problems than it is to wipe out the predators with fungicides and pesticides and allow the problems free rein.

If you choose to plant varieties that breeders have created and that lack the natural ability to survive without disease, you’ll pay the price. Note that not all roses are disease prone.

If you choose to believe those who say that roses need special care because they are … well roses, then you’ll pay the price. Roses are woody plants. No more and no less and growing them is as simple as growing any other woody plant. You simply give them the conditions they require and let them grow and flower.

Having said all that, here’s a few links on this site to controlling rose problems such as controlling black spot

Other articles are being developed as well. But the main point is that an organic or environmentally sound method of growing roses is far more effective and easy than rose fanciers would have us believe.
