Southern Rhubarb

My rhubarb sets its flower shoot before the leaves are hardly out of the ground.  I pinch it out and more flower heads keep coming.  The leaves and stalks are large but not very many of them. Is this all normal?  It is located in rich ground and morning sun.  What can I do to get a better rhubarb crop?

He's never seen this but any plant that wants to flower that much is under stress of some kind.

I'm wondering if you're a bit too heavy on the feeding.  I only feed rhubarb with compost, never chemical fertilizer and never fresh manure.   In fact, by the time you read this, I'll be off digging up some rhubarb to transplant to my own garden.  I love this plant!  And I make a mean rhubarb pie!
