L. syphilitica
by: oldclematislady

I would keep an eye out for it, because mine self-seeded like crazy. Sometimes the flowers will be white, which I think is even prettier. However, it has become a pest for me, and I'm often pulling out seedlings when I see then, even thought I have shovel-pruned clumps for several year. Good thing the leaves are easily recognizable even when young.

The funny thing is that I cannot get a L Cardinalis or any of the red flowered hybrids of it to survive, trying several years until I finally gave up on it.

Thank you!

Thanks guys for your help. Now that I moving things aroung,I think that I will actually move it to a more moist area in the back yard. This is awesome! Thanks Doug for this medium. Keep up the good work.

Lobelia
by: Nori Lane Bishop

Your lobelia is Lobelia syphilitica, common name great lobelia. (I love this plant; I'm a sucker for blue flowers, and it blooms just when so much else is winding down for the season.) It looks very satisfied with the location you have it in.

TALL blue

This is one of my favorite native plants. This is a great blue Lobelia. It will grow best in moist soil but I found it tolerates every kind. It is a member of the same family as the Cardinal flower.
