Trumpet vine seedlings

My back yard has a trumpet vine growing on a fence for 15 years. For the past 6 years small trumpet vine plants have continued to sprout up in the summer. They are beginning to take over my lawn. I have tried digging them up down to 6 inches even spraying nasty stuff called round up. Nothing seems to effect them. It appears they are sprouting up from the roots of the main plant. HELP what can I do?

Doug says that there's pretty much nothing you can do except get rid of the trumpet vine. This is a constant problem with this plant - it either self sows or produces suckers from the roots to colonize everything around it.

So - on the other hand though, you have to have a very happy Trumpet vine if it's producing babies at that rate. :-)

This unfortunately falls into the "things they don't tell you at garden centers" category of gardening information.

you take them out again :-) persevere - you have a lot of work to get rid of seedlings that will be coming... and coming... and coming... (even after you've taken out the vine)
