Tulip Bulbs for wedding favors

I was wanting to give tulip bulbs for my guests to plant as wedding favors. My wedding is not until May 9. I understand that these bulbs really should be planted in the fall. I found a really good deal on the bulbs at a garden center.. Is there anyway that these bulbs can keep and that they will still grow once planted? If so how should I preserve them?

Doug says the reason the bulbs are a really good deal is that they're likely dead or dying. Sorry. There's no way you can store them until fall for planting. If the bulbs are alive - then your guests can plant them in May. But do you want to take the chance of this on your wedding day favor?

Let me suggest you pick a summer blooming bulb, a small tree or shrub (starter size and reasonably pricd), or even an herb plant (something like Rosemary for "Rememberance" or Basil for "Love" Scented geraniums for 'Happiness" or Tarragon for "Permanence". Just stay away from Rue for well... "rue" and Tansy for "hostility" and you'll be fine.

But if it were my wedding, I'd be passing on tulip bulbs as wedding favors in the spring.
