Tulips Replanting from City

by Jayne
(Vinton,Virginia, )

I live in Roanoke, Virginia and our city dug up all the tulips and gave them to the citizens. The tops are still green..I heard comments like spread them on newspapers and let them dry..then, plant in fall normal time late October or early November...before freeze.

Another person said to plant them now and let them die back and yellow the normal way...

I am a bit confused and really do not know which would be the better.

Our city gives these and other plants away after each growing season...what a savings..the bulbs are really large and the leaves are real green.

I would appreciate your suggestions and thank you very much for addressing this for me. I love my flowers and getting such nice tulips FREE is amazing.

Doug says - replant right away and let leaves go yellow naturally.

replant tulips..
by: Jayne

Doug,
Thank you so very much for such a fast reply..I did plant 29 of them on saturday as it was calling for rain. It did start raining and I was singing..."just a planting in the rain." LOL..
I still have 15 left and would like to share with my sister in Va. Beach..I will them and save them for her to plant in fall..just hope they grow. She said she would make a note on calendar and be here for next years ' give away. Again what a DEAL.
Again, thank you for the answer.
