unknown large flowering shrub or tree?

a yucca?

a yucca?

This plant is growing in a suburban New Jersey garden in full sun. It's very tall and striking. I thought it might be some type of yucca but all the yucca photos I have seen don't have the flowers so high over the base of the plant. Any help would be great. I'm trying to identify this for my mom. I know it doesn't grow here in Minnesota where I live.

This is Adam's Needle. Very drought tolerant. Also a good "peeping-Tom" deterent if placed by windows. LOL!

Yes, this is a specific variety of Yucca filamentosa.

Definately

Most definately a Yucca...and getting on up in years as well. I find that mine add a stalk or two of flowers every year. They are very hardy plants and can be transferred easily by digging up the roots, but if you want RID of them, they are the hardest thing to get rid of all the roots!

As with most plants, there are so many varieties it is hard to say it is NOT something based on any given detail. I believe it is a variety of yucca.
