Virginia Creeper Problem

Doug, I have a Virginia Creeper Problem.  Two years ago, I planted a virginia creeper, purchased from a very reputable nursery.  This year it just looks like a long stick with no buds or growth of any kind.  I contacted the nursery and they said this is a slow bloomer.  Please adivse if possible and thank you in adance.

Doug says:

By the end of June - most plants should have leaved out.  If yours hasn't then my guess it's dead.  This is pretty uncommon for this plant if it survived its first year but generally speaking, it really isn't that late an emerger.

My .02 on this kind of question is that I give most plants the benefit of the doubt until mid-summer and then I pronounce the last rites over them on the way to the comost pile.

With this one - or any vine for that matter - I'd suggest you examine the base of the plant carefully because sometimes you'll get a top die-off and the plant will throw shoots from the base.
